Meet our Boise psychiatry specialist

Dr. Thad Koontz, M.D., PhD

I bring something rare to psychiatric medication management: a research background in neurobiology alongside decades of frontline clinical experience. My training at Vanderbilt, UAB, and Duke, combined with my work as Medical Director at Idaho State Hospital North and St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, means I approach each patient not just as a clinician, but as a scientist who understands the biological roots of mental illness. For patients who have tried other treatments without success, or whose conditions are complex or difficult to diagnose, I offer a depth of expertise that is genuinely hard to find locally.

  • Credentials: Medical Doctor, Ph.D. in Neurobiology

  • Specialty Areas: Medication Management, Neurobiology

  • Location: In-person at 4477 W Emerald St c100, Boise, ID 83706
