Carl Printz, LMSW
Carl was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1986, after which he transitioned to construction work and volunteered with kids at his church.
Over time, Carl realized that many of the children he worked with didn’t attend church, and his role shifted more toward social work. In 1990, he moved to Nampa, Idaho, to pursue a degree to become a youth pastor. However, Carl struggled with his studies, particularly finding courses on Wesleyan theology uninspiring, and was asked to leave after a year and a half.
Returning to construction, Carl eventually felt a calling to go back to school. In 1999, he enrolled in a social work program, which he found much more fulfilling. He appreciated the practical work of helping people, feeling it more closely aligned with the example set by Jesus, rather than studying others' interpretations.
While in school, Carl developed a strong interest in addiction counseling. He graduated in 2002 and moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, to work as a youth pastor, supervising mission trips and youth activities for two years.
In his next role, Carl was recruited by a local boys' home, where he helped manage a farm/ranch, took the boys on camping trips in the summer, and skied in the winter. He also provided a structured home environment for some of the more challenging kids. His supervisors praised his work and encouraged him to pursue a master’s degree in counseling.
Carl left the boys' home, adopted two children from the state of Idaho, and was able to stay home as a dad while completing his online studies. He earned his Master’s in Social Work in 2012.
Carl then worked on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation in Plummer, Idaho, focusing on mental health and addiction counseling until 2017.
Afterward, he joined the PACT team in Spokane, Washington, but in November of that year, Carl followed his wife’s career move to Boise.
In October 2018, Carl started working at HSI in Boise and Caldwell, specializing in addiction treatment. He left HSI in December 2020 to work for Syringa Behavioral Health in Caldwell.
In September 2023, Carl returned to HSI, where he continues to serve today.
